Nineteen high school students accepted the challenge to compose essays of the subject, “My Responsibility in Maintaining Freedom.” Taking first place was James F. Massie, Jr. of Amissville, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Massie, who received a $25 Savings i Bond. In second place was Monica Walker., daughter of Landon Walker, also of Amissville, who was awarded $10.
WINNING essays in each category have been submitted for competition in Rappahannock Ruritan District and winners of district contests will compete on a state level and then nationally. District competition includes entries from a number of counties.
