Certification is not complicated. After a producer plaftts his crops, he goes to the ASCS county office and signs the certification papers. When he signs he is stating in effect, “I have planted so many acres of allotment sand base crops.”
In certifying, the producer also indicates the amount of set-aside land he has and that this land is as productive as his planted acreage. In other words if the average production of the land is 125 bushels of corn to the acre, the set-aside land must also be as productive.
