Plans call for completion of the new wing by the latter part of 1975. Subsequently, the hospital’s original building, which opened in 1960 will undergo renovation and improvement in the final phase of the development program.
Gravely said the reasons for the development program are that the present 44-bed hospital will far surpass 100% occupancy by the mid 1970’s, that the need for long term nursing care facilities in the area is growing more acute, that physicians and specialists often choose their general practice area on the basis of hospital quality, and that financial operating soundness to unattainable in the face of the high costs borne by a small hospital offering a broad range of services.
MAJOR elements of the new wing will include:
