On the other hand, cotton prices resumed their upward climb, erasing the previous week’s losses and gaining slightly over prices two weeks earlier. Tobacco prices continued at record high levels and corn prices also continued to climb. Soybean price trends were mixed over the region.
Feeder calf prices declined sharply, as much as $8 a hundred pounds for lighter weights. Feeder cattle sold $2 to $4 lower, following a severe price break on slaughter cattle and carcass beef.
Hog prices dropped $2.50 a hundred pounds following the sharp advance of the previous week.
The southeastern broiler market continued unsettled and weak following an 8 to 11-cent-a-pound price drop during the week. Hen prices declined 1 to 1 1/2 cents a pound. Egg prices were mostly unchanged.
