creased supplies along with a severe price break on slaughter steers and heifers as well as carcass beef around the country were leading factors which influenced the downturn on feeder prices. Also, there were reports that trucks were not always readily available for transportation to the main destination areas in other parts of the country, mainly the Southwest.
Compared to one week earlier around the Southeast. feeder steers and heifers sold largely $2 to $4 a hundred pounds lower. Calves weighing 200 to 300 pounds were $5 to $8 lower while those weighing 300 to 500 pounds trended to $3 to $5 lower. Slaughter steers at Omaha sold $4.50 to $5.50 lower for the most part and heifers $6 to $7 lower. In the Midwest carlot beef trade, Choice steer beef trended $7.50 to $8.50 lower with yield grade 4 to 5 as much as $10 to $11 lower. Good steer beef was $8 to $8.50 lower, heifer beef sold $9 to $9.50 lower and cow beef $4.50 to $6.50 lower.
In representative sales s at southeastern markets, Choice 200 to 300 pound feeder steer calves brought $66 to $76, and up to $90 in Florida; 300 to 400 pounds $59 to $69; and 400 to 500 pounds $53 to $62. Steers of 500 to 600 pounds
