THE PIEDMONT Environmental Council has requested that the State Corporation Commission turn down a request by the Vir, ginia Electric & Power Co., and the Virginia Potomac Edison Co. for permission to blaze new high tension powerline corridors from a generating plant at Mt. Storm, W. Va., through the Northern Piedmont area.
The proposed 500,000volt line would pass through Rappahannock, Frederick, Fauquier, Warren and Culpeper Counties, and would end at Morris villein Southern Fauquier.
The resolution, approved by the Council’s Board of Directors, will be forwarded to the Commission at Richmond, where hearings on the line are now underway.
Noting that the Northern Virginia Piedmont area already is crossed by numerous electric transmission lines, for which the public has paid a high price in. decreased quality of the environment, the resolution says the proposed lines would cross unusually attractive scenic and mountainous areas, including three areas designated by the Virginia Division of State Planning and Community Affairs as critical environmental areas. ^
THE UPPER reaches of the RappahannockRiver, the resolution states, have been specifically designated as worthy of preservation by the Commission of Outdoor Recreation.
