SHERIFF John Walker Jenkins agreed with Muth about the roads condition. “As you all know, I travel all the roads in the county, and I think this is about the most dangerous road here. It ought to be considered soon as possible.”
Askew said that the budget limited what the Highway Department could do. “I have to remind yotf that we have a $500,000 budget and half of that is committed for new construction. Also, we’re still on allocations. I know the gas crisis seems to be over, but we’re still having to save.”
Askew said he doesn’t expect his department’s budget to be cut. “I don’t know the budget yet; I’m pretty sure we won’t have an increase, but I don’t have any indication it’ll be less.”
