SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 50 of the 120 eligible voters in the Town of Washington turned out Tuesday to elect a mayor, treasurer and five-member council. None of the seats were contested, but a few write-in votes were cast in all areas. Mrs. Dorothy Davis received 37 votes for the office of mayor while write-ins included four votes for Paul Walker, three for C. J. Jack Miller, two for Charles Jenkins and one for C. E. Giles.
A 48-ballot vote of confidence was given Mrs. Virginia Miller for treasurer. She has held this office for many years, relinquishing it for a short while last year to act as mayor after the resignation of Andrew Kozik, when he moved toSperryville. Others tapped for treasurer were Kermit Weakley and Jennings Hobson with respective votes of 3 and 1.
Candidates for council who had qualified to be on the ballot were Charles R. Jenkins, 46; Mrs. Dorothy Hawkins and Mrs. Edna Wayland, with 42 each; June Jordan, 39, and Peter Kramer, 32.
Paul Walker also received 10 write-in votes while Allie Huff and Morgan Johnston polled three each; Marion Watts got two, and Mrs. Dora Updike and Mrs. Catherine Weakley received one each.D
