Like the people in three counties who were promised a chance for public hearings on the environmental aspects of a proposed interstate highway. Now the Highway Bureaucrats are saying, in effect: “Too bad about that; we’ve changed our minds.”
Or, maybe the people in three or four counties who’ve had their prerogatives usurped by new state legislation regarding powerline approvals would like to add a Word about creeping bureaucratic power in the Piedmont—and all over Virginia, for that matter.
What about the Northern Virginia jurisdictions who no longer have a say, after a specified period of time, over re-zoning decisions? Maybe they would like to say something about how public responsibility is being taken over by bureaucratic functions.
AND HOW about the state forestry people, who can drop chemical sprays out of the air—or give permission to others to do it—with bland assurances that “there are m> laws” requiring that notice be given to the public in general? How’s that for bureaucratic efficiency?
All such things as these are going on in an area that still defines itself as “rural” and “agricultural”! Just imagine what might follow if we get all “progressive” and grow into an urban area! Then the Bureaucratic fun would really start. □
