DOUGLAS WAYNE CAVE of Sperryville sustained serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on Route 231 two miles south of Sperryville. He received lacerations and a broken right arm and lacerations of the head. Cave was a passenger in a 73 Dodge operated by Edward Wayne Corbin of Etlan who lost control of the vehicle on a curve, ran off the right shoulder of the road, careened back across the highway, went up the left bank and through a fence and turned over, according to Trooper W. A. Buntin, who investigated. Corbin sustained lacerations of the face and head and bruised left leg. Larry Jenkins of Sperryville, a passenger, had contusions of the head and Silas Foster, also of Sperryville, received a bruised back. Dennis Montgomery of Richmond, a hitchhiker, had lacerations of the face and head. All were treated at Culpeper Memorial Hospital and released except Cave who remains a patient in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
The car was declared a total loss and damage to the fence belonging to A. Y. Stokes was set at $100. Corbin was cited for reckless driving by the officer.□
