GRANVILLE EASTHAM reported to the Supervisors that work is continuing for a county recreation center. “We’re hoping to get some federal funds, but we don’t want to have some kind of a program under which they fund you for a/ couple of years, long enough for the people to get used to it, and then discontinue the grant. Tat way you have to come beg from the county.”
He asked the Supervisors to approve a resolution granting the Recreation Center Association to apply for an $18,000 grant from the State Planning and Community Affairs Department.
“Now, we don’t what any kind of a grant you’ll get tied up in. We want a oneshot thing, just to get us started, with no promises of future grants that might not be kept,” he said.
“We’ve done a lot of work. And we may have some land deeded to us in the future. It’s our conviction that young people who spend their time on the athletic .courts won’t be spending much' time in any other courts.”
The supervisors approved the resolution and commended Eastham for the work supporters of the Recreation Center have done.
