RAPPAHANNOCK Hunt’s “real country’’ point-to-point races this Saturday, March 1, at Thorton Hill Farm near Sperryville comprise the second of*the season’s eight spring race meetings. A favorite of honest horse and hound people, this point-to-point is famous for its side-of-the-mountain race course and the final race for hounds, not horses.
Beginning with the hunter pair race at 11:30 a.m. there are eight races carded. A record number of 22 pairs have entered, including last week’s winner at Casanova, Beauregard, ridden by owner Ronald Clark, who will be joined by Mrs. George Cabeen on Bucky Belle. Going against this team from Old Dominion Hunt will be the Rappahannock team of their famed spotted Flamingo, ridden by Page Myers, and Mike Brown on Stuart’s Mill. Among Bull Run’s representatives will be Shirley and Herschell Blevins.
Among the early entries for the turf race are Steve Green’s Services Image, Joan Jones’ Royal Warrior, Edward Stephenson’s Eileen, Larmonde Stables’ Baroness Bedress, S.L.R. Fred’s Yeoman’s Duty and Moody Aylor’s Mint Smasher.
