Trooper J.A. Watson, Garland Broyles Jr. of Stanley operating a 68 Volkswagen station wagon east of Ben Venue fell asleep and struck a guardrail. He veered across the highway, went over the railing and down an embankment.
His son Christopher, 3, sustained minor injuries and Broyles was charged with reckless driving.
TWO TRAFFIC mishaps occurred Saturday in Amissville. At 10:15 a.m. two miles west of the village Carolyn James driving a 65 Buick was struck by Michael Lee Phillips of Tacoma Park, Md. in a 64 Chevrolet.
Miss James was making a left turn onto Route 611 and a car following her stopped to permit her to turn. Phillips in the third vehicle was unable to stop and attempted to pass, striking the James car, according to Trooper W. A. Buntin.
Phillips was cited for following too closely. Damage was estimated
