WE GOT mildly chastised the other day for having suggested that mountains aren't a proper place to build subdivisions—and not from the bull Run Mountains, the object of the original observation, but from the opposite direction, along the Blue Ridge near Front Royal.
Every man's home is his castle—perhaps even every man's second home is his second castle—and we meant no personal insults for choice of home site, but the original observation still hoids. strikes us that being in favor of the countryside impels a number of straightforward observations of this sort, and another one that comes to mind concerns commuters. It has been argued that 1-66 out here should be finished to make things easy for long-distance commuters, as if making things simple for commuters were the intent of interstate highways in a time of growing fuel costs and grow ing questions about the wisdom of even short-distance, large-scale commuting.
