Rutherford has resigned, due to his wife’s serious illness. The sheriff’s department has taken this opportunity to make some changes in the administration of the county lock-up, Jenkins said.
There will be no more families living in the jail building. Instead, one of the deputies on duty will serve as jailer. The jail will be open 24 hours a day and will be operated in^ conjunction with the sheriff’s office.
Since space for the sheriff’s office, which will be moved to the jail building from the courthouse, and the deputy on duty overnight will take up less room than living quarters for the jailer and his family, there will be extra space in the jail building. This could be used as storage or office space by other county departments, Jenkins suggested. □
