With a 5% cut in education in 1975-76 and a proposed cut of 7-1/2% next year in the State mandated “Standards of Quality,” which have never been fully State funded, the public is being fooled that the schools are receiving something they’re not.
Our legislators have got to realize the real people problems of education here, in Rappahannock Cmunty, not just the impersonal paper problems at the General Assembly in Richmond. Every time the State cuts back on education, the County—you and I. must make up the difference to fund the required “Standards of Quality.”
Teachers, parents and other concerned citizens from every school district in the state will rally at the Capitol Building in Richmond on February 5. Plans are under way to rally as many as 7,000 citizens on the steps of the Capital in order to dramatically reflect their opposition to the proposed cutback in state support for schools. The NEA, VEA, and Rappahannock County Education Association will jointly provide free bus transportation to ana from the Capitol.
