THEY were “safe” for awhile only because their county was beyond the outer fringes of comfortable commuting to the metropolitan Washington area. Now that those limits are being extended by the completion of 1-66, Fauquier County is no longer “safe” from the same development pressures which have transformed so much of Virginia to the east and north.
And they are especially vulnerable in many respects because that vaunted Master Plan called for so much development, that if fulfilled, Fauquier’s population would practically equal the present day population of Fairfax!
Fauquier officials are currently in the process of revising that Master Plan, but in many respects, it has already been too late. Hundreds of lots have already been built on, and thousands more are plotted— and no matter whether or not the Master Plan is revised downward in its population projections, those platted lots have a “vested interest” and can be developed.
