for its inception by 1980. There is no planning to save farms and open space, to allow residential development in manageable clusters around existing towns, schools and facilities. There are no specific areas, as in England, beyond which the village will not extend or ridges on which no structure can be placed, to preserve skylines. There is only planning by the land vultures to subdivide and only our vulnerable zoning laws (for which we are indeed grateful) to try to control them.
We read that non-residents (speculators?) now own more than half of Rappahannock county. A substantial fraction of residents also hold property they intend—or feel forced—to subdivide; they have the impression that, if sufficiently remote from their own homes, the subdivision will not affect their own lives.
But it will. They will rue the day they initiated their own selfdestruction.
We farmers do not rdhlly want to subdivide, we do not want increasing taxes and decreasing profits to force us off our farms, to make it impossible for our children to inherit and continue to run the farms. We do not want to see our home land destroyed.
