RAPPAHANNOCK has no choice but to conform to state law and draw up a Master Plan, but it should be especially careful about how it plans for its future. Unlike England, American counties cannot plan “no growth” zones—greenbelts, or whatever you call them. They cannot bar excessive population by planning fiat. They must accommodate growth.
It is up to far-seeing citizens and public officials to make as absolutely certain as possible that the growth that is projected is as reasonable and as manageable as the limits of the law will allow. Otherwise, there will go Rappahannock—in the company of Fairfax, Prince William, and large parts of Loudoun and Fauquier. □
SPECIAL SERVICE
The Five Forks Regular Baptist Church of Woodville will have a special service Monday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. The speaker will be the Rev. Tom Kelly, a prison minister, who will speak on his work in these institutions.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
The annual membership drive of the Auxiliary of the Culpeper Memorial Hospital will be held Thursday and Friday, March 24 and 25. Pink Ladies will be at the downtown offices of the New Bank of Culpeper, Second National Bank and the Fidelity American during banking hours. Dues may also be paid at the hospital or call Mrs. Wister Weaver at 825-0153. □
