until the ski area in Harris Hollow reopens as a year-round recreation facility before trying to get its share of dollars spent for tourism. It already has beautiful scenery, an historic area in the town of Washington complete with museum, top quality restaurant and artisan shops.
It has Mt. Salem Church, recently declared a state landmark, rivers for canoeing, trails for hiking and mountains for climbing. It’s also a natural access point to Shenandoah National Park.
As the county doesn’t have a Chamber of Commerce, it will be up to a local civic association or possibly county government to take the necessary steps to have Rappahannock’s attractions listed in next year’s edition of Scenic History land. It’s a worthwhile project and one that may bring dollars into county coffers with little or no expenditure.
