During the standoff, rescue units from Sperryville and Washington were placed on standby in Gid Brown Hollow. The Virginia State Police also placed its tactical team, hostage negotiator and K-9 unit on alert. None were needed, however, when Jenkins surrendered.
“It was a touchy thing,” Sheriff Woodward said Wednesday morning, “which worked out for the best. Nobody trot hurt.”
