The group, led by physics instructor Brion Patterson, made its own superconductor, becoming one of only three high school programs in the country to attempt such an ambitious project.
The high school also began using some of the new facilities which were the benefits of the long-delayed capital improvement project. The Class of 1988 graduated in the school’s new gymnasium.
The elementary school was the benefactor of technology supplied by Potomac Edison electric power company, which supplied computers to equip an electronic computer classroom. Later in the year, the company announced that it would supply additional software for the program.
Superintendent David Gangel, with .the School Board’s support, also applied to the state for a grant for an electronic classroom at the high school. The Governor’s Technology Initiative would provide a satellite link with other schools, allowing instruction from remote locations while the .students could ask questions and participate as though
