Family transfers
Throughout the year, the county’s Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors wrestled with the provisions of the zoning ordinance which regulates family transfers.
Under state law, localities are required to provide some mechanism for family members to transfer property, but there are no firm guidelines for how that should be accomplished. The county had provided fof five transfers from a lot of record as of 1962, but found itself with a problem when an Amissville landowner requested a family transfer from her tract, bequeathed by her parents.
