“Winter visitors to Shenandoah National Park will have better access and more services this year as a result of recent revisions to the Park’s Winter Operations Plan,” Park Superintendent J. W. Wade announced on Friday.
“Snow-covered evergreens, fog frozen on trees, few other visitors, trails for skiing and crystal clear views are among the appealing features of Shenandoah National Park in the winter,” Supt. Wade said.
The new winter plan modifies the Park’s snow removal and ice control schedules. “Our goal is to open the Skyline Drive from Thornton Gap (U.S. Route 211) to Big Meadows, by 10 a.m. on weekend days and by noon on weekdays.” He noted that visitors will be expected to abide by the posted travel restrictions, such as “Tire Chains Required” or “Snow Advised,” to ensure their safety,v,t4
The Park’s concessioner, ihti ARA Virginia Sky-Line Company] will also be increasing services. Food service and lodging will be available at Big Meadows seven days a week during December and March.
