When it snows in Virginia, many residents are forced to drive under conditions to which they are not accustomed. F olio wing are some. tip® - from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles to help motorists drive safely in snow and ice:
• If you must drive, be sure your car is in good working conditions, know the road conditions and allow yourself plenty of time to get where you are going.
• Always wear your safety belt.
• Before starting out, make sure all lights and windows are clear for maximum visibility.

One possibility, which was used last year, is using “banked time.” The state allows school systems to i bank time for each day school is in session more than six hours, not counting lunch time. There are a few other holidays that can be used as make up days. Another possibility is to extend the school year.
