Jennifer Alexander, a resident of Grimsley Road, was opposed to this as she felt it was a "piecemeal" fix which would only temporarily solve the problem.
"I really don't want to see rural rustic," she said. "We don’t want to come back every year."
Alexander was not alone. Susan and John Hanback, who recently purchased property on the road, also took issue with the proposed tar and chipping.
"We bought our new property because we like the way it was. We like the gravel and we’d like to see it stay that way," she said.
Sharon Payne was one of many who feared tar and chipping the road would increase speed and traffic on the road, as many would begin using it as a short cut.
Newland nonetheless requested that the road be placed on the six-year plan.
