It can be argued that no death is so challenging as the death of a child. Parents believe that, as the natural order of things, they can expect their children to outlive them. Because parents are biologically and emotionally linked with their offspring, parents may feel that a part of themselves has died along with their children. Parents lose their futures as grandparents as well, which adds to their grief. For many parents, the assumptions they had about the world and how it functioned may not fit with the reality of the death of a child. At times, such as these parents must draw from the strength of family, friends, and spiritual leaders to help them regain their balance.
