Amissville dance
Amissville Fire and Rescue will hold a dance on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Amissville Fire Station. Music is by Desert Wind.
Fuel lecture at library ,
Rappahannock resident Amos Blanton will give a presentation on “Using Straight Vegetable Oil as an Alternative Fuel” at the Rappahannock County Library on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. Blanton has converted his VW Jetta Diesel-engine car to run on filtered, used vegetable oil recycled from Ben Venue's Ecow restaurant.
Basket weaving
A series of one-day basket weaving workshops will take place at Blueridge Artisans in Sperryville. Weave your own “Market Basket” under the expert tutelage of Mitchell Webster, master basket weaver. Cost is $85 pre-paid and includes all materials and instruction. The first is Oct. 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is limited. Please register by Oct. 1 by calling 987^1000.
Farmers to meet
The fall quarterly meeting of the Rappahannock Farmers’ Association will be on Sunday, Oct. 12. from 3-5 p.m. at Touchstone Farm in Amissville. Persons interested in supporting agriculture in Rappahannock County are welcome to attend. For directions and more information call 937-6124.
4-H Dog Club
The 4-H Dog Club will have regular monthly meetings starting Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. at 10 Estes Mill Road in Sperryville, with an activity planned each month. It is open to children ages 9-18 that have dogs or would like to learn more about them. Members and their dogs will participate in such activities as hiking and hunt trials.
Community services meets
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board and Area Agency on Aging will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. at 15361 Bradford Road, Culpeper. Tribal belly dancing
Tribal belly dancing classes with Charmaine Lee will be held every Tuesday through Oct. 14 at the Belle Meade School House, Route 231 at 6 p.m. The cost is $72 for the whole series of six classes aqd $15 per class. Please bring a mat. Call 1(800)578 6678 for more information.
Garden Club to meet
The Rappahannock County Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Skyland in Shenandoah National Park. Members should gather at 10:15 a.m. in Sperryville at the Sunnyside parking lot to car pool. A lunch at Skyland will be followed by a program, “Exotic Horticulture in Virginia,” presented by a park ranger. The meeting is open to the public but reservations are necessary. Life Stories Workshop
A three-day introductory session will be held Oct. 17-19 taught by Julie Portman and presented by Ki Theatre. Participants experience how to write freely, write three stories, uncover their own style and voice, learn new skills of listening and share stories as a process that builds community. Bolen cemetery day
The annual clean up-picnic at the Bolen family cemetery is Saturday, Oct. 18. Persons interested in going should meet by 11 a.m. at the parking area at the end of Keyser Run Road (Route 614) in Gid Brown Hollow. Those who can supply the use of four-wheel vehicles will be appreciated. Please contact all friends and relatives as this is the last trip this year. Bring a drink and/or dish to share. In case of inclement weather it will be Saturday, Oct. 25.
Hearthstone concert
The Black Heritage Orchestra from Berlin, Germany, will tell the story of black music through music on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. at Hearthstone School in Sperryville. Taking the stage at 10 p.m. will be the Rude Rock Family band, combining reggae, punk, ska, dub, latin, electronica, trip hop and a bit of the danceclub.
