And simply raising taxes is not an acceptable option. The primary purpose of public schools is education, i.e. academics. As demonstrated last year, nearly a million dollars was committed to where it belonged; in support of our faculty, administration, learning resources and school facilities.
I don't have any kids that would participate in track, soccer, or football. But if you ask the parent of any student-athlete if we need a suitable track you'll likely get an emphatic, yes.
My conclusion, too, is that we desperately need improvements to our track and field resources and we have two options: either hope that a truckload of gold breaks down in front of the school or get real creative and explore non-traditional methods of fund-raising.
We need to respect everyone’s opinion but for the benefit of the kids and the community also be willing to accept any good faith contribution.
Much concern has been expressed about the message we’re sending our kids. After having personally visited the track and field complexes at neighboring schools and realizing our kids see the same thing when they travel to those schools, I agree. There is much reason to be concerned.
