Kim Holien, a U.S. Army military historian and Civil War author, will speak about the fateful battle of Ball’s Bluff on October 21, 1861 at the annual dinner of the Blue Ridge Civil War Round Table on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Fretwells Restaurant in Front Royal. The dinner is open to the public.
Holien is currently the first ever historian for Fort Myer, Va., (founded in 1863 as part of the Defenses of Washington) and of Fort McNair in the District of Columbia (founded in 1791 and home to the trial and execution of the Lincoln conspirators).
From 1986 to 1989 Holien was a civilian historian for Staff Rides to Civil War battlefields for the Secretary of the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Army and the Army General Staff in the Pentagon.
For this and many other successful history projects, Holien has received recognition from President Ronald Reagan, Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger, Secretary of the Army John Marsh, three Chiefs of Staff of the Army, Mrs. Douglas MacArthur, the Ambassador of Australia and the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
