Floyd Stilley was elected chair of the Rappahannock County Democratic Committee for the next two years at the party’s biennial reorganization caucus last Saturday morning.
He succeeds Meredith Gorfein who has headed the committee for the past four years. Stilley was secretary of the committee during Gorfein’s administration.
Linda Dietel was elected vicechair, replacing Fran Krebser. Other officers elected were Julie Emery, secretary; and Yogi Bear, treasurer, to succeed Andrew Platt.
After the election, Gorfein received a unanimous ovation and vote of thanks for her leadership and accomplishments as chair.
In his acceptance speech, Stilley lamented the fact that President George W. Bush has polarized the country, and he emphasized the need to elect a president who can bring the country back together.
