Dr. ■‘Ski” is leaving.

John J. “Ski" Sygielski, the third president of Lord Fairfax Community College, is leaving his position June 6 to accept the presidency of Mount Hood Community College in Portland. Ore. The Virginia Community College System will launch a search for his replacement.

Sygielski arrived at LFCC in August 2003, and during his tenure the college established a third location and implemented its first sports program.

His high school outreach program resulted in a 25 percent increase in the number of dual-enrolled students. Increases were also achieved with the reorganized college foundation, raising almost $4 million to benefit students and employees.

Known for his charismatic leadership and interaction with others, the energetic president hosted forums on the changing demographics of LFCC’s service area and established working relationships with governmental and community leaders.
