Rep. Burr P. Harrison was notified last Friday that tlfe Department of Agriculture had greed to certify Rappahannock county as a “disaster area” for the purpose of GpVernment loans to distressed _fruit growers.____ - Information on the procedure for obtaining loans will be made available through County Agent W. H. Lyne to interested growers.
The plight of Rappahannock fruit farmers was emphasized to Department of Agriculture officials by Mr. Harrison, after County Agent Lyne had assembled data on crop failures. The Seventh District Representative pointed out that, although the number of pros, pective borrowers was small, their need of assistance eras nonetheless acute.
It is estimated approximately five growers, representing a total _of 328 acres of orchards, will require Federal loans to continue their operations.
