set of people, pet depend upon another set for moot' of its income? TiLat ia exactly what a newspaper haa to do.

There have to be readers—ee the printinn try to find font what the readers want to read. But tine subscriptions won’t pay for the printing*-of ■ the paper, so there 'must be advertisers.

Continuing the paradox, advertisers won't patronize papers if they are nothing but advertising, neither will the readers. Yet, if the paper doesn’t have advertising, business men won’t place more advertising in it.

Advertisers are the means whereby a county can have a paper of its own. The business men want your business, and by supporting your paper with their advertising, they expect your business in return.

Every now and then—on a rare and radiant occasion—the newspaper has a trial and tribulation or two. (This statement is necessary since it is known that no other working man has any trouble.) Some advertiser will want to dictate what must be printed in the paper; or some reader will decide that it’s time he laid down the law as to what should be printed. ^ ,

The result is: the printers stumble along, doing the best they can, "with malice toward none,”'and. hope that the average will even up the score.
