Rappahannock farmers will tour the Beef Cattle Research Center near Front Royal Tuesday, June 26, leaving, the Courthouse at 9 a.m. * At the Research Center Messers Baker and Priode will first explain the manner in which they are attempting to find ways and means of getting the moat efficient 1000lb. steer through breeding programs and through feeding hay and pasture. In addition they will explain: Their method of selecting bulls; performance tests on beef cattle lines; and performance tests on bulls and cows within the three major beef breeds, namely Shorthorn, Angus, and Hereford. These tests, are not an . attempt to prove which is the* best breed as results of any tests will be equally applicable to either of.„ these breeds. Following the expla-— nation of the programs being conducted at the Research Center an inspection tour of the entire operation will be made. At present there are 96 cows in the shorthorn herd, 55 in the Angus herd, and 75 in the Hereford herd. Animals of the latter two breeds are at the station on loan.
