Game Plentiful In State
Virginia's, 1950 hunting: season - >went into full swing on November 20, wh«pi the wraps cam# off state wide on deer, bear, turkey, quail, grouse, rabbits and squir, rels in all counties that are open to hunting any given species of -. game.
According to I. T. Quinn, executive director of the Commission of Came and Inland Fisheries, the average hunters chances of returning home with something in the game bag are excellent this jjrear. ’
Nesting conditions for the State’s upland game birds ranged . from fair to good through the nesting season, with the result that more coveys should rise before the nimrod’s guns this year.
Deer prospects are good throughout the State with hunters in the Tidewater counties generally finding more liberal regulations as to length of season than their brother hunters west of the Blue Ridge.
The squirrel hunters should find conditions to their liking this year, for with the nut trees of the State bearing a bumper crop of mast the gray-coated tree dwellers should be in top notch condition.
The Came Commission is making a special plea to the hunters this year to try and be careful with fire when they are in the woods and fields.
