Miss Alma Ricketts, retired postmaster of Flint Hill, has received a record listing the past postmasters since the date of the establishment of the post office, March 27, 1823, then a part of Culpeper couftty.

The list shows many names still in the county, and a few that seem strange and unknown. It is judged that when a name appears and then re-appears after another has been postmaster that change in political parties must have heen the cause.

The records continue with this: “An early mail route including Flint Hill was Number 1949, from Co 1 p e p e r (via Thompsonville, Newby’s Cross Roads, Rock Mills, Washington, Gaines Cross Roads, Flint Hill, Sandy Hook, Front Royal, Johnston, and White Post) to Millwood, 67 miles, let for a period 1830-1834 to William Ashby of Culpeper Court House, twice a week from Culpeper C. H. to Front Royal and thence once a week to Millwood.”
