Vacation Church School
Ends Sunday, June 24
The Vacation Church School, conducted by Washington Baptist church is in session this week. Commencement exercises for the school will be held Sunday night, June 24, at 8 o’clock. Eighty-five students have been enrolled and the sessions are being held at the school building.
The boys and girls of the Junior department are making leather book marks with oil painted decorations. Another group has as a handwork project the making of an autograph booklet for favorite Bible verses. The backs are made of plywood and when completed make an attractive work in natural finish.
The faculty of the Vacation Church School is as follows: Rev. M. E. Sliger, principal; Mrs'. M. E. Sliger, assistant principal; Shirley Weaver, pianist; Miss Mary Jenkins, beginner supt.; Mrs. Christine Johnston, teacher; Mrs. Jean Moffett, handwork. Mrs. L. J. Turner, primary supt.; Mrs. J. Frank Jones, teacher; Miss Mary Miller Wood, junior supt., Mrs. Cleo Sliger, handwork; Mrs. C. G. Reid, intermediate supt., Miss Gladys Reid, teacher; and M. E. Sliger, handwork.
The enrollment of the school reached 85 on Wednesday morning. Several of the workers donated supplies as well as contributed of their time and talents. Each morning in the worship service an offering is taken for mission work at home and abroad. The school begins at 9 o’clock and continues until 11:30 o’clock. A picnic will be held Friday, June 22 and everyone is asked to meet at Washington Baptist church at 4 o’clock. The picnic will be held at “Harris Hollow Farm.”
