Charles W. Warden
Charles William Warden, 88, son of the Reverend and Mrs. William Jacob Warden, of Rap-" pahannock county, died Saturday at Washington, D.C., as the result of a broken hip in a fall in his home a few days previous. Interment was at Staunton. _ __
Mr. Warden was one' of the founders and Executive Vice President of the Continental Trust Company, of Washington, that later consolidated with another bank in that city, at which time Ke retired.
Before coming to Washington, D.C., Mr. Warden was vice president of the First National Bank, of Bristol, Tennessee. He later became President of the United States Trust Company of that city.
Services were held Monday at the Church of the Pilgrims, of which church he was Elder for 40 years. He was a Board Director of te Central Union Mission; Trustee of the Presbyterian Home for the Aged and Manager of the Prisoners’ Aid Association. President Wilson awarded him a personal citation in World War I for activities in Liberty Bond drives. He was formerly and for many years Treasurer of the Southern Society of Washington.
Mr. Warden and his father are well remembered by the older people of the county, where the former was born, and attended school, while the latter for many years contributed his services as minister without remuneration to the Presbyterian church in Washington. Mr. Warden’s mother was, before her marriage, Miss Mary Wade Ashby, of Culpeper.
SujrviVors are his wife, Mrs. May Arthur Warden; a son, Arthur Hills Warden, of Jacksonville, Florida; and one sister, Mrs. Raymond F. Slaughter, formerly of Rappahannock, now residing in Front Royal.
