Waa in Arlington over the past week end. Saw Japanese Beetle emerging by the thousands! Never before (witnessed such a thing . . while beetles only started ‘coming out’ four days previous, they were coming out of the sod 10-15 at a time in areas less than a square foot and thqye was no trouble seeing where they were coming out . . . here . . . there. . . everywhere!
Those city-dwellers had paid $8 per yard (postage stamp size) to have them treated with milky spore dust. It’ll not cost you yard owners here in Rappahannock that much even if there is an acre in-your yard . . matter of fact, it’ll cost here about 75-cents per yard in Washington, Flint Hill, Sperryville, Amissville, or, Woodville. Those Arlington folks I mentioned above were in a new development. Your problem is not as great as theirs (yet).
Get ready. Get Spore Dust. Get rid of the beetles. Shoot at them with both barrels. DDT for the adult and spore dust to make your yards and pastures, beetlegrub-proof.
Another thing — ’t/was hot as Hades, too, but before a lady’s laundry could dry, I saw her rush out and brush the beetles off halfa-dozen times or more. Matter of fact, I’ve known cases right here in Rappahannock where- housewives have had to re-do the laundry because of beetle.
Remember, we have the spore dust here at |1.26 per pound or you can buy it elsewhere for f 4.50, One thing for sure, if Rappahannock's supply of spore dust isn’t used shortly, the Board of Supervisors is going to sell it to other county residents. Let a word to the wise be sufficient.

Guy de Faraudy, the French farmer at Downing Wood's, will soon be leaving Rappahannock county to observe and work at orcharding in another section of the great ole U.S.A. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of having Guy /with me over the week end at my parent’s-in-law during which time all of us grew to like Guy more than just a little. I have never seen a. more courteous young man nor one more desirous of learning not only fruit production but anything there . was to know about farm operations, fianancing, management, etc.
Guy, we wish you a pleasant journey throughout your stay here in our country and will always remember Lafayette’s assistance at Yorktown. I’m the more happy to have been able to show you those battlefields as well as Williamsburg and Jamestown.

Day’ Set for
Vacation Bible School
“Preparation Day” for the Vacation Bible School of Amissville and Viewtown communities will be held Friday, June 29, at Amissville Baptist church. All boys and girls of these communities are urged to be present Friday morning at 10 o’cloc. The school will continue through the next week concluding on July 6. The project wjll be sponsored jointly by the following churches: Amissville Baptist, Amissville Methodist, and Forest Grove Baptist. There is a request for several more- voluntary workers. A similar project of last year enrolled 108 students and workers.
