Miss Gertrude Burdette
Mias Gertrud* Burdette died Friday, June 22, at the home of her cousins, Misses Susie and Lucy StringfeUow and. Mrs. R. E. Bowie, in Culpeper, after a long period of ill health.
Miss Burdette, 76, daughter of James Broadus Burdette and Morton Woods Burdette, was formerly bookkeeper for W. H. Fray in Culpeper, and throughout the years she took a great interest in keeping up with the news in Rappahannock and Madison counties where she new the people who dealt with Mr. illy Fray’s warehouse in the days when wagons transported goods.
Graveside services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Masonic cemetery, Culpeper, with Rev. W. Franlin Cale officiating. Pallbearers were Col. John Fray, t Dr. J. Lawrence Stringfellow, T. I. Martin, Wert H. Hurt, Robert Button, Floyd White, Makwell Willis, and Felix Maddox, HI.
-lad-1— AUXILIARY MET WEDNESDAY
The Ladies’ Auxiliary of Emmanuel Episcopal church met on Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock in the home of Mrs. William Williamson. Mrs. S. E. Hening, president, presided over the meeting. Miss Annie Stephenson lead the devotional. Plane were made for the food and white elephant sale on tiie church lawn Saturday. During the social hour the hostess served refreshmens. Ten members were present.
