Dear ex-Printer’s Devil:

This morning when I first walked into the office I knew something definitely was wrong, it was so quiet, but what? Then I realized our printer was gone. There wasn’t any singing or horn playing while the press was running oila job; no wise craoks were flying; and not a soul to help me Bpell. What a life its going to be without you around, but our loss is Uncle Sam’s gain.»

Now for a little news which ia “sorta” scarce this week, but always seems to pop up around Wednesday, when we have really given up. It seems Lee Thornton is so busy these days he has to work all week, he even had to make hay yesterday. Mr. Watts has painted the barber shop a very lovely green, so restful for the men after a hard day’s work. Haven’t heard what color the beauty parlor will be. The Geest lot on the corner is really going to be a playground, swings, slides, e^g., have been ordered, and they have started on the tennis court, so it really is in full swing. A fireplace has been built right next to the fire house, its a changed town, even the short while you have been gone.

I was told this morning by Mrs. D. D. Miller that the Haakers will move very shortly into the community. As you know concerts will be held here the 12th, 19th, and 26th of August. T. C. Lea is treasurer of the Blue Ridge Music Festival. The first concert was held Sunday, June 24, it was attended by a very few as no one knew anything about it( it. was just to try out the grand piano) but I understand the music was the next thing to heaven, and enjoyed by all who had the privilege of hearing Mr. Haaker play.
