150 Attend Pre-Concert
At Music Center
William Hsfhker’s piano recital Sunday marked the opening of Blue Ridge Music Center’s first summer season, with a group of about lot) present for the preconcert, two weeks ahead of the regularly scheduled three concerts for August 12, 19, and 26.
The pre-view tft AvomMills was received enthusiastically, when, following the piano recital, the audienqe enjoyed an inspection tour of the five-storied old mill, and marveled at how much had been done in the restoration project, and with what excellent taste the old had been retained with the new usefulness.
Mr. Haaker has stated his pleasure at the attendance at the Sunday recital and was pleased also at the comments from those present.
The audience consisted of about 150, with more from Culpeper than any one locality, though there were people in the audience from Fredericksburg, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Warrenton and Front Royal. About 50 of thef audience were Rappahannock people.
To date there are about 30 enrolled in the choir classes, to meet Tuesday- evenings during the summer music camp. Most of the students enrolled are In church choirs throughout the county and they are taking the "learning to read” class rather than the advanced section.
Ten pupils have enrolled in instrument instruction, including those in piano classes. Larger classes are expected for the third iweek of the camp, according to Mrs. Haaker.
A second piano recital will be given August 15, at 8 p.m. at Avon Mills by Mr. Haaker. This recital will not- be included as a free concert for members, but will be at $1 admission.
The first. of the three concerts is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, August 12, when, as Charles Wood announced at the recital Snnday, an orchestra of 60 pieces will be present.
A meeting of chairmen was held following the rdcital Sunday, and additional planning committee meetings were held Tuesday ni^ht and last night, but full reports on these meetings have not been released. More information will be available as the summer camp opens and students begin work.
