Gas Industry Grows
1500-per-cent in 16 Years
Although it is the “baby” of thd oil industry, liquefied petroleum (“bottled") gas has become so popular in recent years that it is now cooking upwards of 60million individual* meals each day in this country; Claude W. Huffman of Dominion Gas & Supply Company, local “Pyrofax” gaa distributor, said recently.
Basing his estimate on figures released by the LP-gas information service, Chicago, Mr. Huffman pointed out that consumption of the fuel in the nation’s homes has sky-rocketed 1600 per cent

»,oo£ Most of the more than 7,1500,i families burning LP-gas use it for cooking and a high percentage for water beating, home heating and refrigeration as well. Two new applications are rapidly coming to the fore. These are clothes drying, which eliminates the tiresome chore of haMMtOto the wash to dry, and incineration, which rules out the messiness of waste and garbage disposal.
Laterally scores of fanfi uses have been developed for LP-gas, according to Mr. Huffman. It now pumps water for irrigation and livestock, dries hay and cures tobaccp, sterilises dairy equipment ripens fruit, and provides dependable heat for poultry brooders' and incubators and for pig brooders.
