Playground Work
Nears Completion
The Washington playground will be completed in about two weeks, reports Miss Ruby Jenkins. The swings , have been placed on the grounds but have not been laid in cement. The basketball goals have not been completed.
Capt. H. C. Warwick and R. V. Snead have been busy leveling off the tennis court, and have now turned it over to Will Timbers to complete.
Mayor Dorothy C. Davis says the highway department is having warning signs painted to warn, drivers of the playground and to drive slowly and watch for the children.
Four benches 'have been purchased recently for the town and have been placed next to the bank building to be used for the fireplace outings, or just sitting. The opinion has been expressed that a new bench should have been placed in the shade before the Courthouse -for Judge Miller, Brooke Miller, and D. Lyle Miller. The old benches are just about worn out.
A few tourists have enjoyed the picnic table at the playground, and some of the local young ladies enjoyed a picnic there on Monday: Misses Carolyn Gates Turner, Milly Sisk, and Evelyn Tyler Miller. Ronnie Thornhill and Miss Mary Jenkins were cooling off “In the Shade of the Old , Apple Tree” on Monday afternoon being assisted at this chore by a glass of lemonade.
Squeals and laughter assure the ears that the playground is being enjoyed by the children.
