3 Auto Accidents Occur
Three automobile accidents occurred around Washington for the week end: two Saturday night near Rediviva bridge and one Sunday night near “Rote Hill.”
The first accident on Saturday night, involving a '41 Chevrolet and a car driven by Henry Jackson. According to statements, the Chevrolet came out of the side road, where Rev. R. H. Scroggins is now holding * tent meeting, The car, driven by Henry Jackson, coming from Sperryville to Washington, ran into the ditch, supposedly avoiding collision with the Chevrolet, ana Jackson’s car overturned, caught Are, and burned.
A few minutes after this wreck, another of a similar nature took place within a few feet of the first one. A '40 Pontiac, driven by, Charlie Jenkins of Peola Mills, was coming from the same road leading from Scroggins’s tentmeeting grounds, when this car collided with a Ford from Luray. The Pontiac was burned and the Ford went into the ditch. The Negroes, in the Luray car, were taken to Luray hospital for treatment.
The wreck on Sunday night , happened two miles east of Washington on Route 211, at the foot of Almond’s hill. Three men from Harrisonburg, R. C. McKenney, Ronnie Wright, and Robert Smith, were all hurt and were taken to* Front Royal hospital.
It .is supposed the driver lost control of the car, which turned over three times. The car was hauled in Jay Merrill Motor Co. and appeared ,to be a complete 'wreck.' ' '
