REMEMBRANCE OF MY FAVORITE TEACHER

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Anna W. Green whom the Lord took away two years ago. When I heard the news of her death, hoar it made my heart ache. I knew what a great teacher I had lost. She taught me a lot of things that fwere the stones of my foundation of education which is not corn-* pleted. My remembrance of Mrs. Green will never alter.

COUNTY STUDENT RECEIVES ROCKEFELLER SCHOLARSHIP

David Summers has been awarded one of the first annual Aibby Aldrich Rockefeller scholarships. He was formerly a student of Mrs. Anna W. Green of Washington.

David Summers went to Williamsburg in 1946 where he attended Bruton Heights high school and graduated in June 1956. He has completed one year at Virginia State College, majoring in biology1 as a pre-medical student. The an. nual scholarships were established last summer by John D. Rockefeller III, chairman of the Board of Colonial Williamsburg, as a memorial to his mother, to go to the boy or girl in the graduating class of each of the two Williams. burg high schools, who gives the greatest promise for future acievement and usefulness regardless of his or her field of interest or anticipated career.

Qualities of leadership, personality, character, and interest and activities outside of the classroom were considered. The scholarships provide for a fixed allowance of $400 toward the cost of the student’s living expenses and an amount up to a maximum of $600 to cover or apply toward charges of tuition and other academic or special fees required by the college or institution of higher learning chosen by the recipients. Each scholarship is anrarded annually for a period of one year and each scholar is eligible to apply annually for a continuation of the scholarship for each of the remaining three years of his college course.
