We owe much to an older generation who added bits of wisdom to our learning to help us over difficult spots. This one tale came from a friend, who expressed gratitude to her mother. The girl was having difficulty overcoming a personality clash with an associate; the working partner was pompous and’- over-bearing, and had the ability to- “rub your fur the wrong way.”
“Don’t let it bother you,” advised the mother. “The next time the lady’s over-bearing manner begins to irk you, just think this: ‘Stand aside, still water, and let the deep water roll’.” '
“I followed Mother’s advice,’f said the girl, “and now every time I see the woman getting swelled-up and pompous, I get tickled.”
A similar story comes from a young friend who used to get nervous and excited when she had to appear in public, for something like a piano recital. “You seem determined to worry,” " said a friend. “Instead of worrying about the same old thing, why not try a different worry? Did it ever occur to you that just as you walk onto the stage you might trip over your own feet and fall flat on your face? Worry about that for a change.”
It does appear to be ft good idea. We worry about the same things all the time. It can become monotonous. Let’s invent a few ridiculous wdrrys and forget the old ones for awhile.
