Third Concert Features
Symphony Orchestra
With William Haaker conductinf, a symphony orchestra, recruited from both the Virginia and National Symphony, will feature the third concert at Avon Mills Sunday afternoon, August 26, beginning at 4:30 p.m. This concert .will conduJe the opening session of Blue Ridge Music Festival in Rappahannock county. •
The program Sunday will include Symphony No. 6 in F Major (The Pastoral) of Beethoven, Cheerful Impressions Received on Arriving in the Country, -By the Brook, Peasant’s Merry-Making, Tempest and Storm, and The Shepherd’s Hymn - Thanksgiving after the Storm. (It is sincerely hoped that the fourth movement will in no way be considered a prediction of weather; especially since the first appearance of the orchestra on August 12 was marked by a heavy down-pour for the Opening number.) Additional numbers on the program will be Vienna Life, Strauss; Mississippi Suite of Grofe, including Father of Waters, Huckelberry Finn, Old Creole Days, and Mardi Gras; and Prelude to “Die Meistersinger” of Wagner.
An enthusiastic audience of 900 heard Miss Katharine Hansel, aoprono, and Glenn Darwin, baritone, last Sunday evening at Avon Mills.
The student concert hud evening was most favorably received. The students performed creditably and proved the value of their sessions’ study at tbs summer music camp.
