Farmers To Hold Meeting

Farmers of the entire county will gather at the Courthouse totomorrow night, Friday, August 24, to discuss and hear discussion, of the Family Farm Review.

Giles H. Miller, Jr., of Culpeper, has been invited to address the group." Mr. Miller, bankerfarmer, has made a study of this impending review and has agreed to pass on the information he has gathered to the farmers of Rappahannock.

In the first meeting Tuesday, August 4, a few farmers met with members of the agricultural work and tried to study out the purposei of the Family Farm Review and. the proposed research and recommendations. The proposed review was incomprehensible to the farm- . ers who wanted to know how the information was going to he used) before they gave their approval. They seemed to fear that the whole thing “smacked of socialism” and they thought the facte might be mis-used in presentation to Congress.

It was because of what they did not know and what they eould nob find out that they became suspicious of the proposed effort to contact the “grass roots” for their opinions on matters pertaining to fanning.

The farmers were doubtful of the review when the following facts came to light: e comprehensive survey was to be conducted throughout the entire county in 45 days, with 15 of them gone; and the county was asked for a farm survey to get information on the value of agencies under the U. S. Department when these 14& agencies would be helping to conduct the survey.

Relatively few farmers were present for that first meeting, hut} it is expected that almost all the farmers of the entire county will be present Friday night to hear what's going on ud protect their interests. v
